Amanda Wilson of Providence made her presence felt on the mound and in the batter’s box during the Celtics’ East Suburban Catholic Conference game Monday against visiting Joliet Catholic.

Wilson yielded just one hit, a leadoff single in the fourth after retiring the side in order in the first three innings. At the plate, Wilson was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to help Providence record an 11-1 five-inning victory.

“JCA is always a big game for us,’’ Wilson said. “We definitely wanted it. The umpire was squeezing the strike zone so I knew I wasn’t going to get many strikeouts. We played good defense.’’

Wilson induced seven groundouts through the first three innings and nine for the game.

“Amanda is really having a nice year for us,’’ Providence coach Jay Biesterfeld said of his sophomore ace. “Her production has really stepped up, especially on the mound. She really pitched well today. The strike zone was a little bit tight today.’’

Providence (11-8-1, 6-2) took advantage of two errors and two walks in the first inning to grab a 3-0 lead with the big hit a two-run single by Caroline Casper.

“I’ve been in a hitting rut all season and it felt so good to finally get a hit that was crucial and get the ball rolling,’’ Casper said. “It’s really good to start scoring first. It gets us going and our spirits high.’’

“That really helped us get an early lead,’’ Biesterfeld said. “We had opportunities anyway. Anyway we do it, we’ll take it and get the early lead.’’

Wilson’s second-inning double drove in the fourth run, and the Celtics scored three more in the third before they ended the game with six singles in a four-run fifth inning. Ilana Primack scored four runs and Maddie Rosa and Casper each had two hits.

Providence has won seven of its last eight and is 11-4 in its last 15 games.

“We started real slow,’’ said Biesterfeld, citing the graduation of Hannah Gardner and Chloe Oprzedek in the infield. “Filling those holes was a difficult time in the early part of the year. We’ve really been playing well as of late.’’

Not so for Joliet Catholic--Haley Gerl had the only hit for the Angels.

“We just didn’t do enough things to give ourselves a chance,’’ said Joliet Catholic coach Dave Douglas, pointing out the four errors and five walks. “We’re at the point now where we’ve got to get going.  We’ve got to do a better job.’’

Joliet Catholic (14-6, 3-4) plays Nazareth Tuesday before a Wednesday rematch with Providence at home.

‘’Losing isn’t the issue,’’ Douglas said. “I just want us to play the right way. ’’
