Boys Bowling: Lockport rolls past Plainfield North

It was more of the same for Lockport’s boys bowling team Wednesday, which was fine with the Porters.

Lockport had four bowlers go well over the 200 mark in both games in improving to 10-2 in duals with a 2,268-1,787 victory over Plainfield North at Strike and Spare II in Lockport.

“We’ve been consistent this year, showed a lot of focus and are trying to have fun,” Lockport’s Brian Hodolitz said.

That consistency has helped the Porters roll on even after two-time state champion Kyle Anderson graduated in 2011.

“It’s definitely a team sport,” Hodolitz said. “Losing a big person like that has just made us come together even more as a team.”

John Isit hit all strikes after a second-frame spare on the way to a 280 in Game 1. He nailed the first five of the second to give him 15 consecutive strikes and finished with a 244 second game. Isit led the Porters with a 524 series.

David Wysocki (221-234), Shane Matejcak (214-241), and Hodolitz (228-226) all had strong performances for the Porters, who hit 1,130 and 1,138 in the two games. Wysocki and Matejcak each rolled a 455 series and Hodolitz, who closed the first game with five consecutive strikes, a 454.

The only Lockport bowler who didn’t have a 200 game Wednesday was Justin Vandenburg (380 series). But he had just come off an individual championship in the Plainfield Central Invitational, where he had a six-game average of 214.5

“They brought their ‘A’ games,” Plainfield North coach Brian Dunn said. “Those were state-level scores.”

Peter Bednarz led the Tigers (4-6) with a 252 first game and 439 series.

“(We have) been getting better,” Dunn said. “(This) was not a representative of how we’ve done all year long.”

The Tigers have three one-pin dual losses, and five losses by 10 pins or fewer.
