Two-time defending state champion Kyle Anderson is gone, but Lockport boys bowling coach Jeff Wyatt still sees plenty of potential in his squad.

“These kids have just as much talent as last year,” he said. “I have just as much confidence in the team this year.”

The host Porters got off to a strong start Monday with a 2,131-2,089 win over Plainfield Central in both teams’ opening meet at Strike N’ Spare II.

After both teams came out firing in Game 1 — the Wildcats nipping Lockport 1,125-1,109 — the Porters had a 1,022-964 win in the finale to take the series.

John Isit led Lockport with a 464 series that included games of 229 and 235.

“I think we did good for the first meet of the year,” Isit said. “We only had a couple weeks of practice. I’m no Kyle Anderson, but I’m happy with how I bowled and I hope to improve on it.”

Wyatt was impressed by junior Brian Hodolitz, who tossed a 454 series that included a team-best 256.

“I was pretty sure about four of my bowlers, but I didn’t know who I was going to put in that fourth spot (in the lineup),” Wyatt said. “Brian stepped up and bowled great.”

David Wysocki (435), Shane Matejcak (417) and Justin Vandenburg (361) also contributed for the Porters.

Josh Iwinski led Plainfield Central with a 489 high series (220 and 269). Ray Ciangiola added a 453 series, highlighted by a 258, and Eddie Wasielewski (420), Colton Chapin (372) and Bryan Blair (355) rounded out the scorers.

“I think we did really good for the first one of the year,” Gerry Oshita said after his first meet as the new coach at Plainfield Central. “I think we’ve got a good mix of eight or 10 guys and they’re all working hard.”

St. Laurence 2,020, Reavis 1,780: Kevin Fitzmaurice had a two-game series of 427 for St. Laurence (1-0) at El-Mar Bowl. Frank Tonika added a 241 game and 426 series for the Vikings. Matt Johnson recorded a 379 series for Reavis (0-1) and Kyle Anderson chipped in a 206 game.

T.F. North 1,837, Stagg 1,497: Paul Bomba, of T.F. North (1-0), led all individuals with a 267 game and 438 series at Castaways Bowl. Charles Hutcherson added a 224 game and 423 series for the Meteors. C.J. Walsh posted a 328 series for Stagg (0-1).

Brother Rice 2,838, Tinley Park 2,780: Chris Ulrich’s 243 game and meet-best 648 series over three games sparked Brother Rice (1-0). Chris Roti tacked on a 258 game and 610 series for the Crusaders at Bleekers Bowl.
