The competition facing the Minooka girls golf team not only came from the five other teams entered in the Southwest Prairie Conference meet Thursday at Inwood Golf Course in Joliet.

It came from within.

Trying to do one better than each other, Minooka came away with its fourth straight league championship by shooting a 358. The Indians had four of the top eight rounds at the tournament.

“We played our best round today in the four years we’ve won it,” Host said. “We’ve never shot a 350 during the conference meet here over the last four years and we had a 358 today.”

The Indians made it a sweep of the championship awards when Rachel Herzberger captured the league’s Most Valuable Player plaque.

“We have a really good streak going,” the junior said. “We’re hoping to make it five next year. That’s going to take a lot of work like we did this year.”

Herzberger’s 82 was the best score of the day.

“This year, we’ve got the conference MVP, which makes things even a little better,” Host said. “We’ve missed out on that the last three years because of our team strength.”

“It helped I had a good round and so did the rest of my partners,” Herzberger said. “(Krystal Paramo), Sammi (Thompson) and Deaven (Hudson) all did well today.”

Paramo, a senior, shot an 88, which was good for second, while Thompson and Hudson each came in with a 94.

“Rachel was able to play real solid all the way through this year and shot a real nice round today,” Host said of Herzberger, who was ½ point out of the individual points lead heading into the meet. “One of her goals was to be conference MVP, which is really nice to see.”

Paramo joined Herzberger on the all-SPC team. Two players from the top five teams in the league earned all-league awards.

They were Plainfield Central’s Cailey Baker and Kelly Vazquez; Plainfield East’s Anna Gahafer and Jasmine Wissinger; Plainfield North’s Diana Clark and Katlyn Whitner; and Plainfield South’s Alex Catalano and Trinity Hill.
