Super sophs

Lemont’s Ethan Pocic, a 6-6, 295-pound offensive tackle, is Illinois’ top football player in the Class of 2013, according to CBS College Sports recruiting analyst Tom Lemming. Pocic’s brother Graham is a two-year starting lineman at Illinois and received honorable-mention All-Big Ten recognition last season. Rounding out the top five recruits in the current sophomore class are St. Francis offensive tackle Kyle Bosch (6-5, 270), Maine South quarterback Matt Alviti (6-foot, 176), Joliet Catholic running back Ty Isaac (6-3, 202) and Libertyville defensive lineman Brandon Stanfel (6-6, 210). Stanfel is the grandson of longtime Bears assistant coach Dick Stanfel.

All-star baseball

Seniors from the Public League’s Minnie Minoso and Ryne Sandberg sections will face off in an all-star baseball game at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Ag. Science field at 111th St. and Hamlin Ave. There will be no admission charge.

Stepping down

Dean Stavrakas, who guided Lake View’s baseball team to its first Public League finals appearance in 31 years in 2008, is resigning as the Wildcats’ coach at the end of the season. Stavrakas began this week with a 172-136 record at Lake View since 1993. He also coached one season at Hales, going 7-15 in 1991, and was 229-113 at St. Benedict from 1992 to 2001.

Basketball camp

Bobby Locke, who coached Brooks to third place in the Class 3A boys basketball state tournament, will run a series of weeklong camps for boys and girls in grades 1-8 this summer at the Menomonee Club, 1535 N. Dayton St., in Chicago. The cost is $130 for members and $170 for non-members for grades 1-2, and $230 for members and $270 for non-members for grades 3-8. For more information, call (312) 664-4631.
