Plainfield South continued its dominance in Southwest Prairie Conference boys track and field by winning its third straight conference title Thursday at Plainfield East.

The Cougars scored 143 points to hold off Minooka (121 points) and Plainfield North (105).

“It’s really awesome to win three in a row, especially in this conference,” Plainfield South coach Jason Crowe said. “This conference has really stepped up the competition, and it’s an honor to win it again.”

Plainfield South was led by a group of seniors who have rewritten the program’s team and individual marks.

“This is great for the senior class because these guys have really taken our program to another level,” Crowe said. “These guys came in and have done some great things for our program.”

Among them are Sheldon Magee, John Magee, Alex Flores, Juliano Lodi, Kevin Hardin and Dondre Adams. They combined to win six events, including a sweep of the relays.

“This means a lot,” Adams said. “We wanted to win this and it’s our third time. This is great for this team.”

“We kept it going and kept supporting each other,” Lodi said. “It feels great winning the last two years. It feels even better to win it this year.”

Adams won the long jump (22 feet, 11/4 inches) and joined John Magee, Steven Harris and Jalen Bonner to win the 1,600-meter relay (3 minutes, 18.98 seconds).

Flores replaced John Magee in the 800 relay (1:27.77) and Adams, Flores, Bonner and Harris won the 400 relay (41.83).

“I’m glad everything is coming together at the end of the season because that’s when it counts,” Adams said.

Lodi also won the 800 in 2:00.54, while Sheldon Magee took first in the 400 (48.34).

“I tried to stay behind them and pick it up little by little,” Lodi said. “The last 200, I decided to give it a kick and give it my all.”

Minooka’s Joe McAsey and Romeoville’s Perez Ford were double-winners in the distance and sprint events, respectively. McAsey won the 3,200 (9:28.7) and 1,600 (4:28.54), while Perez won the 100 (11.06) and the 200 (22.45).
