After a subpar meet a week ago, Palatine bounced back strong Saturday at the sectionals at Palatine.
The Pirates, who finished a disappointing second at their conference meet, rallied behind Jonah Hinz and Damian Przystal to capture the sectional team title with a 150.15.
“We will take this one over last week,” Palatine coach Scott Hagel said. “This is what we were fighting for all season. We were working all week cleaning up and fixing the things from conference to accomplish this goal.”
Conant was second with a 143.60 and Schaumburg was third with a 137.60.
Rolling Meadows’ Marc Herff also came up big when he needed. The senior won the all-around with a career-high 53.10.
“I came in and took it a little easier today,” said Herff who won the parallel bars with a 9.25 and the rings with a 9.15.
“I just wanted to be clean and make it to state. I am really going to go for it there.”
“He was on fire today,” Rolling Meadows coach Mike Costa said. “He has been training hard and it paid off.”
Conant’s Steve Rink was second in the all-around with a 52.05. Hinz was third with a 51.65 while Przystal was fourth with a 50.60.
Fremd’s Bobby Wongkamalasai won the vault with a 9.30 and the floor with a 9.45 while teammate CJ Patton won the pommel horse with a 9.20.
Schaumburg’s Alex Lin won the high bar with an 8.70.
