Downers Grove North is picking the best time to peak.

Last week at their conference meet, the Trojans scored a season-best 155.55. On Friday at the boys gymnastics sectional at Downers Grove North, the Trojans eclipsed that mark with a 157.65 to easily claim the sectional title.

Niles North was second with a 130.50 and Niles West was third with a 130.25.

“We are picking things up out there,” Downers Grove North coach Al Bekkedal said. “And you haven’t seen our best yet.

“We had three people sit down on the vault and our bars isn’t where it should be. But we are excited to go to state and the kids are fired up.”

Downers Grove North’s Luke Schubert won the all-around with a career-best 54.10. His teammates Luke Wychocki (52.25) and Strahinja Sopcic (48.00) were second and third, respectively.

“It was awesome out there actually,” Schubert said. “We came in with a mindset that we could do this. We are all ready.”

Schubert won the pommel horse with a 9.10, the parallel bars with a 9.40 and tied teammate Matt Rakow on the floor with a 9.30. Wychocki won the high bar with an 8.95.

Niles North’s Manny Magbanua won the rings with an 8.70, while Fenton’s Eric Owusu won the vault with a 9.35.
