Lincoln-Way co-op cruised to its 10th straight conference championship Thursday night at Lincoln-Way East.

Lincoln-Way totaled 157.80 points, outdistancing Andrew (109.85) and Homewood-Flossmoor (94.40) for SouthWest Suburban Conference bragging rights.

Although a conference championship is an accomplishment, it’s become expected in recent years for Lincoln-Way.

“To be honest, I don’t really think about it anymore,” Lincoln-Way coach Skip Adamson said. “It’s a big deal for the kids and they are what really matters, but I consider it a stepping stone.

“When it’s a stepping stone, you don’t think of the stone, but rather where the stone is leading. Our focus is the state meet.”

Ajani Cargle led the way for Lincoln-Way, winning the all-around (56.20), pommel horse (9.50), high bar (9.50), parallel bars (9.30), vault (9.50) and still rings (9.10). Much like his coach, Cargle seemed to be looking ahead.

“It was a pretty good day,” Cargle said. “I think my performance was fairly well, but I can do better. I can always do better. Hopefully, I can keep on pushing and get better and better for state.”

Lincoln-Way’s Victor Valencia won the only event Cargle did not, hitting a 9.40 to Cargle’s 9.30 on floor exercise.

“He can get it next time,” Valencia said with a laugh. “Since sectionals is next week, this boosts my confidence, knowing I can get those scores. It felt good.

“We need to just keep doing our routines in practice, work harder and hopefully, next week we’ll be even better than this.”

Lincoln-Way seems to have tunnel vision toward its goals.

“We’ve got to get ready for next Thursday,” Adamson said. “It’s always something. Even with this year’s state meet, I’m already thinking to next year’s state meet.”

Evan Hosman (48.60) added a second-place finish in the all-around for Lincoln-Way.

Andrew’s Anthony Romito (38.40), Rod Haddad (33.70) and David Kachirouras (32.90) rounded out the top five in the all-around. Antione Dantzler (8.60) led Homewood-Flossmoor with a fifth-place finish on vault.
