Grilli, Hinsdale Central rule sectional

Kristen Grilli and Hinsdale Central continued their hot streak Wednesday at the girls gymnastics sectional at Hinsdale Central.

Grilli broke her school record with her 9.875 on the vault. Meanwhile, the Red Devils scored a 146.475 to win the sectional title. Lyons was second with a 144.775.

With their score, Lyons fell short of Prairie Ridge, which scored a 144.975 Monday at Stevenson, for the final at-large spot.

Grilli has been on fire as of late. And she continued Wednesday, setting a school record by winning the all-around with a 38.275.

"I have been going into each event with a positive attitude," Grilli said. "I reallu been trying to get my mind into it."

"She likes the pressure," Hinsdale Central coach Kim Estoque said. "She was also the only one not to fall on the beam. We just need to do better there."

Lyons Carolyn Cozza was second in the all-around with a 37.45. Waubonsie Valley Freshman Jordyn Penny was third with a 37.30. Andrew's Jamie Valla was fourth with a 37.275 and Lincoln-Way's Claire Hillier was fifth with a 37.05.

Grilli also won the bars with a 9.45, Penny won the beam with a 9.675 and Cozza won the floor with a 9.525.
