Bulldogs, Devils to meet in title game

MERRILLVILLE — Lowell will meet Crown Point on Saturday in the Merrillville Sectional final. The Red Devils downed Kankakee Valley 6-2 and the Bulldogs shut out Merrillville 6-0.
Stojan Kresteski scored early and often in Lowell’s victory. Kresteski had four goals and an assist. Kresteski scored his first goal at the 1:17 mark.
Frederico Tajliatti had a goal, Michael Scott had a goal and an assist and Matthew Edwards had two assists as the Red Devils scored three goals in the first half and three in the second half to cruise to the victory.
Lowell built a 3-0 lead by the 20-minute mark before the Kougars scored on a rebound goal by Jose Ramos and a Luis Cazares goal on an assist from Garret Butler on a corner kick made it 3-2 at the half.
KV tried to mount a comeback in the second half, but many of their offensive chances were thwarted by Devils keeper Brendon Shanks, who made seven second-half saves.
Lowell (3-14) got two second-half goals from Kresteski and Scott.
“We just played them (KV) last Wednesday and we knew we had a chance to beat them,” Lowell coach Chris Werling said. “Our defense played excellently and I told them if they don’t win tonight, our season is done.”
In the second game, Crown Point exploded for four goals in the final four minutes of the first half and cruised past Merrillville.
Carmelo Morales got the Bulldogs on the board in the 36th minute with the assist from Michael Martin on a throw in. Dan Naumoski, Martin and Mitch Witham also had tallies for the Bulldogs before halftime. Vasko Najdeski and Martin Mitreski had second half goals for the Bulldogs.
