Munster recovers to top Crown Point

MUNSTER — Munster coach Jim Prasopoulos was experiencing a bad case of déjà vu. Like last year against Crown Point, the Mustangs went down two goals early, but this time they recovered to capture a 3-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
“I think we went down two goals in the first couple of minutes at their place last year and the game ended up a 3-3 tie,” said Prasopoulos.
“The only thing you can say to yourself is there’s a lot of time left in the game. I thought Bishop Noll outworked us Saturday and we couldn’t let that happen again against Crown Point.”
Crown Point’s Zach Sneiderwine appeared to take all the fun out of the evening with a pair of goals in just the first seven minutes of the match. Munster keeper Evan Kattan had successfully thwarted an early penalty kick attempt from Crown Point when Sneiderwine scored his first goal on the ensuing corner kick. A few minutes later, Sneiderwine scored again, this time from 15 yards out on an assist from sophomore Bay Kurtz.
The Bulldog lead was short-lived, however, as Munster’s Sam Smith took a pass up the left side from Drake Bowers and beat Crown Point keeper Aleksandar Trifunovic with a shot to the far post. Two minutes later, Smith fed a ball to Mustang captain Zarko Coric at the top of the box. His back to the goal, Coric spun and drilled a shot into the upper left corner. Just 21 minutes into the match, the score was tied at 2-2.
“We started strong, moving the ball like we like to do,” said Crown Point coach JR Rosenbaum. “Then we had a couple of defensive miscues that cost us and we couldn’t get our rhythm back.”
Coric delivered the game-winner four minutes into the second on a nice cross from Bart Grabowski. Coric got his head on the ball and sent it into the top right corner.
“Zarko worked hard, but because the team played well around him, the game was a little easier for him,” said Prasopolous. “We were attacking in numbers, moving a third and fourth guy up to attack, which makes it easier for those two guys up front.”
Crown Point (4-2) pressed the action the rest of the way, but the Bulldogs were unable to dent the net. Kattan had 11 saves for Munster (3-1), while Trifunovic saved seven shots for Crown Point.
