Anderson, Glenn take it to Judson

There’s no getting around the reality that John Glenn senior Josh Anderson is a very good player.

And though he is the team’s horse, the Falcons have a lot of experience around him, when he needs help getting the yards.

Anderson ran rampant over host North Judson on Friday night, scoring four rushing touchdowns, a return off a Bluejays fumble for a TD, and finally, a 21-yard pass play from quarterback Tom Knape in a 41-6 victory. He gained 222 yards on 13 rushes.

But Glenn coach Justin Bogunia said he respects the Bluejays.

“Everyone played physical, everyone played hard,” said Bogunia. “We were aggressive, and we were physical. We took the fight to them. North Judson defends their home field well, we always preach that. Our history here has not been very good here against the Jays.”

The Bluejays got their only score in the fourth quarter on a 57-yard run by Wes Derflinger.

It was nearly a replay of last year, when North Judson lost to Glenn 47-6 at Walkerton.

“Glenn is extremely physical on both sides of the field. We couldn’t stop the run, and we couldn’t run the ball,” Bluejays coach Kevin Cox said.

Cox admits his team is still young despite returning 15 players, but he also believes it is a close-knit squad.

“We need to keep progressing, and develop every day,” Cox said. “High school football is cyclical. Glenn has got the horse, and they know how to use him.”

And as Bogunia also noted, the Falcons’ offensive line prevented Judson from stopping the Glenn running backs. Glenn piled up 376 yards rushing, while its defense held the Jays to 139 yards on the ground and 62 yards in the air.
