Boys state meet

Site: Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex at Indiana University, Bloomington

Schedule: Friday, field events begin at 2 p.m. (central time), running events begin at 3:15.

Format: Trials for 100, 200, 110 hurdles with nine runners advancing to finals; all other running events are timed finals. Top 10 plus ties in field events trials advance to finals.

Skinny: Last year, Hobart senior Jarvis McMillian became the first boy in Indiana history to win the 100, 200 and 400 dashes in the same state meet. He’s back in the 200 and 400, as the No. 2 seed in the latter. It’s been a banner year for region sprinters, with Bowman’s Cornelius Strickland, Merrillville’s Rahim Conwell and Andrean’s Chris Arvia and a deep Portage group also putting up impressive times. Look for the best local showings in those events, and don’t forget about Chesterton’s Kody Galloway (jumps) and Hanover Central’s Derek De St. Jean (throws) in the field events.
