Chicago Christian cruises past Longwood

Chicago Christian’s Emily Lindemulder started serving with her team leading 1-0 in Game 1 Wednesday and didn’t stop until the Knights had won the game.
The defending Class 2A state champions started their run at a repeat by cruising to a 25-0, 25-4 win over CICS-Longwood in a St. Francis de Sales Regional semifinal.
“That was a first,” Lindemulder said. “I’ve never had a run of serving like that before. We knew it’d be a little easier tonight, but we wanted to focus on improving. Our record doesn’t look good, but I think our tough conference (the Suburban Christian) has us prepared for the playoffs.”
Lindemulder finished with 15 aces while Emily Workman had 13 assists and six aces, Maggie Kamp five kills and Megan Kamp four kills to lead the Knights (18-18), who will meet Ag Science in Thursday’s regional final.
Workman served for nine consecutive points, providing six aces, as Chicago Christian pulled away for an 11-1 lead in Game 2.
Knights coach James Garcia got a chance to empty his bench in the second game.
“Matches like this are more about getting the younger kids some experience with playoff volleyball,” he said.
Garcia feels his team is capable of another run to the state tournament.
“We’re either ready now or we aren’t,” he said. “We’ll find out. We have a really young team, but we have some kids who know what it takes to get (to state). We need to focus on our passing and our ‘D’ because we’ve struggled with that when we’ve played tough teams.”
In the second semifinal, Ag Science hung on to top St. Francis de Sales 25-17, 28-26.
The Cyclones rallied from a 26-25 deficit in Game 2.
Carly Trinley (seven kills), Kate Patnett (six kills, block) and Rita Muench (five aces, three kills) led Ag Science.
“We just needed to get our intensity back up at the end,” Muench said. “All our school has talked about the last couple weeks was us playing Chicago Christian so we’re excited to compete with them.”
