York edges Oak Park

For most of regulation, Christina Ordonez and York were left to wonder if they were ever going to be able to sneak a shot past Oak Park keeper Darcy Hargadon.
“We all were wondering that,” Ordonez said. “But we kept fighting and we knew it was bound to happen for us one time.”
Actually, it happened twice.
Ordonez scored with 6:11 remaining in regulation and Mary Kate Cincinelli punched home a rebound with 5:27 remaining in triple overtime on yet another save from Hargadon to lift No 8 York to a 2-1 victory Tuesday over Oak Park in a Class 3A sectional semifinal in Elmhurst.
Ordonez set up the game-winning goal with a cross into the six-yard box that Angela Pianchi put on frame only to see Hargadon once again parry away.
But Cincinelli was on hand to slam home the rebound into an open net to send the Dukes to the sectional final vs. No. 5 Lyons at 4:30 p.m. Friday at York.
“No matter who scored it, it was all of us wanting it as hard as we could,” Cincinelli said. “I give it up to Christina [Ordonez] with the cross and Angela [Bianchi] with that finish and then me just ending it. Everyone was working hard and having a great attitude towards the game.”
The Dukes (20-4-1) have won 17 of 18 games since a 3-3-1 start to the season.
“At the beginning of the season we started off kind of rough,” Ordonez said. “But since then we’ve done everything we could to not lose a game. We picked ourselves up and came together as a team.”
Hargadon finished with 11 saves – including several stellar stops on Ordonez in each half of regulation – for the Huskies (12-6-2).
“It’s a blessing to have her out here,” Oak Park coach Paul Wright said. “She made some great saves, but the thing that people don’t see is she’s constantly talking back there, making sure kids are picking up marks and making sure angles are cut down. … It’s been like having another coach on the field, which is just such an asset.”
Emily Gullo gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead with 13:35 in the first half on an assist from Sara McCall.
