Alexis Leneau scored 21 of her career-high 28 points in the second half, leading visiting Warren to a 61-43 North Suburban Conference Lake Division win over Mundelein.

Alyssa Phillips and Jessica Prince each added 12 points, and Amanda Barger had nine points, nine assists and five steals nine points for the Devils (3-4).

For Mundelein, Becca Woit had 13 points and freshman Natalie Busscher added eight points and 12 rebounds.

Mundelein is 3-5 overall and 1-2 in the league. Warren is 1-1 in the league.

“It was just kind of a mental thing,” said Leneau, whose offense has been lacking of late. “I wanted to bounce back tonight and get everyone going — not just myself. It was great to get a win.”

Despite the wide margin at the end, this wasn’t a cruise-control contest.

Mundelein 24-21 at halftime, but Warren hits first five shots and scored the first 14 points of the third quarter to take control of the game.

“Our message at halftime was to keep it simple,” said Warren coach John Stanczykiewicz. “In in the first half, we tried to be a little too fancy with our passes.

“At times, it was hard to tell who there were passing to. “

Warren’s center, Jessica Prince got her third foul 30 seconds into the third quarter, but her teammates rallied to the cause.

“When Jessica got in foul trouble, we switched to a zone,” the coach said. “We ended up getting a lot of steals (16 in the game, eight by Leneau) that we were able to turn into points.”

Stanczykiewicz also praised Barger, who had a good all-around outing.

“Alexis had a heckuva offensive game, but Amanda did a really good job distributing the ball,” he said. “I’m happy for the girls. We needed a win.

“Mundelein played hard. They have a gutsy, scrappy team and you have to be ready to play. It was a good win on the road and it was nice to see the girls play well in the second half.”

For the game, Leneaux was 10-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-3 from behind the arc.

Warrens shot 23-of-41 from the field while Mundelein was 17-of-43 total and 6-of-11 from three-point range

Warren returns to action Friday at Lake Forest.

Mundelein’s holiday tourney starts Saturday, and the Mustangs will face Huntley at noon in the first of four rounds of play.
