Former Geneva girls basketball coach Gina Nolan confirmed that junior Ashley Santos made a verbal commitment to Marquette University and head coach Terri Mitchell.
Santos, a 5-foot-10 guard, averaged nearly 16 points per game for the Vikings last season.
She is also a member of the Puerto Rican U18 National Team and is rated as ESPNU’s No. 86 overall player in the class of 2012.
“Ashley is a hard worker and she has really improved her game from sophomore to junior year and as she goes from high school to college, I see her just getting better and better,” Nolan said. “She has such a competitive nature, even with herself, to challenge herself to work on what she thinks a weakness is and just become the best all-around player that she can.”
Marquette finished the 2010-11 season 24-9 overall and lost 79-70 to top-ranked Tennessee in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
