Glenbrook South left nothing to chance Tuesday night in its playoff opener at home.
The third-seeded Titans smothered 14th-seeded Lane early with their full-court press and wound up with an 83-23 victory in the regional semifinals at Glenbrook South.
“We definitely wanted to come out strong and not mess anything up in the beginning,” Glenbrook South junior point guard Lindsey Oldshue said. “Once we got the big lead, we were able to work on some stuff we might need for later games.”
The Titans (21-7) raced out to a 19-0 lead and led 27-2 by the end of the first quarter. Molly McDonagh scored 13 of her game-high 14 points in the opening eight minutes, and Glenbrook South forced 12 turnovers.
All 15 Titans played in the first half as the team went into the locker room ahead 46-6.
Glenbrook South coach Steve Weissenstein then mixed up his lineup throughout the second half, but the Titans still increased their advantage.
“It’s always good to get a nice lead so you can rest some players and play a lot of kids,” Weissenstein said.
Teigan Flaws and Abby Keller scored 12 points apiece for Glenbrook South.
Natalie Frazier led Lane (7-14) with nine points.
Glenbrook South plays either fifth-seeded New Trier or 11th-seeded Resurrection in Thursday’s regional final. The Titans split the season series with the Trevians, who are ranked No. 23.
“We will size them up again,” said Oldshue, who planned to watch the other regional semifinal Tuesday. “It’s an opportunity to learn even more about them.”
