Glenbard North’s Jackson brothers ran over Palatine 35-21 Saturday in the Class 8A playoffs in Carol Stream.
The duo combined for 345 yards on 42 carries as Glenbard North (8-3) avenged a loss from Palatine from last year in the playoffs.
Glenbard North will meet Stevenson in the quarterfinals next weekend.
“That was on all our minds,” said Phillip Jackson, a senior, who finished with 227 yards on 27 carries.
“I told my brother about how we felt after last year. It is great playing with him. We couldn’t have done it without our line and our fullbacks blocking for us. “
“I love playing with my brother,” said Justin Jackson, who is a sophomore and finished with 118 yards on 15 carries.
“My brother has taught me a lot, especially how to cut. We love to run the ball here.”
The teams traded touchdowns twice to make it 14-14. Palatine (9-2) scored on seven-yard run by John Serio and five-yard run by Cam Kuska. Glenbard North tallied on runs of three and 63 yards by Phillip Jackson.
Glenbard North pulled ahead for good with 44 seconds left in the half on Phillip Jackson’s 15-yard run. The Panthers then got some breathing room when Justin Jackson busted off a 78-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter to make it 28-14.
Palatine closed to 28-21 with 49 seconds in the third quarter on a two-yard run by Serio.
But Glenbard North put the gane away with a 13-play, 53-yard drive on all running plays. Phillip Jackson capped the nearly seven minute drive with a two-yard run.
