Jackson brothers lead Glenbard North

Updated: October 22, 2011 5:17PM

The Jackson brothers were just too much for Naperville North to handle in a 34-10 Glenbard North win Saturday in Carol Stream.

Older brother Phil Jackson (29 carries,155 yards) and younger brother Justin (11 carries, 98 yards) combined for four touchdowns and 253 rushing yards.

Panthers coach Ryan Wilkens summed up his team’s plan of attack: “Run the ball and give it to the Jackson brothers.”

He also credited the rest of the team with impacting the final score.

“The big kids up front (on the offensive line) did a nice job and our defense played well,” Wilkens said.

Glenbard North finishes the regular season 6-3 overall and 4-3 in DuPage Valley play.

Naperville North (5-4, 4-3) grabbed the early lead on a Ron Coluzzi 21-yard field goal but was only able to add a Dan Puknaitis touchdown 50 seconds before halftime.

Huskies quarterback Johnny Brown completed 7 of 12 passes for 143 yards. His one glaring mistake— an interception to Nicholas Maxwell— helped set up an 11-yard TD scamper by Panthers quarterback Brian Murphy. Trevor Hackett added the extra point to give the Panthers a 14-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Puknaitis (21 carries for 103 yards) scored from two yards out and Ron Coluzzi’s PAT cut the Glenabard North lead to 21-10 going into halftime. Mariano Long’s interception and 37-yard return were instrumental in keeping the game temporarily within reach. He brought the ball to the Naperville North 45 on the drive that led to Puknaitis’ touchdown.

“Glenbard North played a great, physical football game and we had nothing to respond to them,” Huskies coach Sean Drendel said. “We’re definitely disappointed in how we played but we’ve got to recover and come back next week. Hopefully we get in the playoffs.”

Nick Krejci made a game-high 16 tackles and Tony Leon had two catches for 66 yards for the Huskies.

The game had originally been scheduled for Friday night but a power outage postponed the game.
