Five wins may get team in playoffs

Updated: May 9, 2012 9:54AM

When determining which teams with 5-4 records qualify for the playoffs and which don’t, the tiebreaker is total wins by a team’s nine opponents.

In other words, strength of schedule.

The more wins your nine opponents have, the better chance you have of qualifying.

Right now, the area teams that can finish 5-4 and the possible number of wins by opponents is as follows:

Carmel (44-45), Vernon Hills (36-39), Deerfield (34-38), Highland Park (33-37) and Grayslake North (35-38).

Usually, it takes 35-40 wins by opponents to make the playoffs.
