Peltz comes up big for Wheaton North

Just think of it as Wheaton North’s magical history tour.
John Peltz scored a touchdown on a one-yard run and threw touchdown passes of nine and 51 yards to Micah Penn as Wheaton North (7-1, 6-0 in the DuPage Valley Conference) snapped a streak of 10 consecutive losses to Glenbard North with a 27-17 victory Friday in Wheaton.
“Our defense gave us great opportunities,” said Peltz (9 of 20, 124 yards), who turned a fumble recovery into a 10-0 lead with his nine-yard toss to Penn three plays after the Falcons capitalized on a Luke Sahly interception with Marcin Gawlak’s 30-yard field goal.
“The defense came up with four turnovers,” Peltz added. “They did a heckuva job. Our offense came out attacking, but our defense won this game for us stopping one of the best running backs (Glenbard North’s Phil Jackson) in the conference. “
Next up for the DuPage Valley Conference leaders? Crosstown rival Wheaton Warrenville South, a team the Falcons have not beaten since 2002 and has only beaten once in the last 22 meetings.
“We take every game one at a time,” Peltz said. “Next week is Tiger week. We don’t take no share of the title. We don’t accept share of the title.”
Glenbard North (5-3, 3-3) lost its third straight despite two long second-half drives that helped the Panthers erase a 20-3 deficit. But Glenbard North came up short on a fake punt at the Falcons’s 45-yard line and Peltz made them pay with his 51-yard touchdown toss to Penn.
“We did not do enough in the first half offensively,” Glenbard North coach Ryan Wilkens said. “In the second half, we moved the ball decent enough. We needed that first down (on the fake) and didn’t get it. We thought we saw something. We just came up a yard short.”
Brian Murphy completed 13 of 27 passes for 132 yards and ran for 54 yards on 13 carries before leaving the game late with an ankle injury. Jackson finished with 111 yards on 21 carries. Patrick Sharp had 84 yards on 16 carries for Wheaton North.with 111 yards on 21 carries. Patrick Sharp had 84 yards on 16 carries for Wheaton North.
