Batavia stays perfect behind Gaspari

Noel Gaspari has accomplished many things in his three years as quarterback at Batavia except beat St. Charles North.

That ended Friday night as Gaspari completed 13 of 21 passes (all in the first half) for 218 yards and two touchdowns in leading the Bulldogs to a 42-0 win over the North Stars.

“It was really fun, the offensive line is doing an incredible job. They’re the reason we’re 8-0,” Gaspari said. “It feels good beating St. Charles North because, as a sophomore, they kind of whipped up on me and last year they beat us again.”

Gaspari threw touchdown passes of five yards to Dom Guzaldo and 30 yards to Zach Strittmatter.

Guzaldo touched the football just five times in the game but scored three touchdowns. His other two came on runs of 12 and 34 yards when he followed fullback Alex Lyons (touchdown runs of 1 and 2 yards) through a huge hole of right tackle.

Any hopes the North Stars (2-6, 2-3 Upstate Eight River) had of an upset evaporated on their first possession when punter Shawn Collins had to field a bouncing snap from center and was buried by Lyons at the North Stars 18.

“We told the kids that to create an upset, to be a spoiler, you’re going to have to play a perfect game,” St. Charles North coach Mark Gould said. “They (the Bulldogs) have so many weapons, so many things they can do.”

The closest the North Stars got to the end zone was the Batavia 26 and that ended on a fumble.

Batavia (8-0, 5-0) used the second half to work on its ‘Wild Dogs’ formation with Austin Lindquist running the show.

“We’re really starting to click on offense,” Batavia coach Dennis Piron said. “We’re a really, really good high school football team.”
