After dropping its first two games of the season, Simeon has now rattled off six straight victories, the latest a 49-0 rout of host Lane Friday night.
The win locked up the Illini Red Bird conference title.
“We worked hard on the field and it’s been showing all season” said running back DaRell Thomas, who had seven carries for 47 yards.
Thomas’s 11-yard run gave the Wolverines (6-2, 5-0) a 7-0 lead with 3:09 left in the first quarter.
Junior quarterback Elcee Burke (11-for-24, 172 yards) completed a 13-yard touchdown pass to John Gardner with 11:46 remaining in the first half.
“[Starting quarterback]Robert Gregory has been injured, and I’m just filling in and doing the best job I can. Hopefully he’ll be ready for the playoffs, but if not, I’ll be ready to go,” Burke said.
By the time Burke hooked up with Gerrard Jenkins for an eight-yard touchdown completion, the Wolverines led 29-0 going into halftime.
The Wolverines led 42-0 after three quarters, starting a running clock. They outgained Lane (2-6, 1-4) 335 yards to 50 yards.
