Hubbard vs. Robeson
When: 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Stagg
Outlook: Hubbard (5-1, 3-0 Prairie State), which has won five straight after a 21-18 opening loss at Proviso West, seeks to remain in control in the conference. Quarterback Quincy Skanes is on a roll for the Greyhounds, passing for seven touchdowns and running for four more over the past two weeks. Running back Devon Sanders leads Robeson (5-1, 2-1), which was unbeaten till falling 26-20 to Morgan Park last week.
Lake Zurich at Stevenson
When: 7 p.m. Thursday
Outlook: No. 12 Lake Zurich (5-1, 3-0 North Suburban Lake) hasn’t been seriously tested since losing to Cary-Grove on a 52-yard field goal in Week 2. Quarterback Zach Till leads an explosive offense and the Bears’ defense has given up just five touchdowns all season. Four of Stevenson’s games have been decided by five points or fewer, with the Patriots (4-2, 2-1) going 2-2. Quarterback/kicker Matt Micucci paces Stevenson.
Glenbard W. at Addison Trail
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Outlook: This West Suburban crossover features a pair of 6-0 teams who will try to avoid looking ahead to big league showdowns. No. 2 Glenbard West hosts York next week with the Silver title on the line, while Addison Trail hosts Downers South in Week 9 in a game that should decide the Gold champ. In the meantime, Glenbard West likely will have to get along without injured quarterback Justice Odom, who suffered a sprained left knee last week vs. Proviso West,
Prairie Ridge at Jacobs
When: 7:15 p.m. Friday
Outlook: Another week, another big game in the Fox Valley Valley. No. 7 Prairie Ridge (6-0, 3-0) is coming off a 41-16 romp past previously unbeaten Crystal Lake South. With a defense that has allowed four touchdowns all season, the Wolves are looking more and more like a team that could be playing for the Class 6A title on Thanksgiving weekend. No. 22 Jacobs (6-0, 3-0) has been one of the season’s surprise teams, thanks to an offense keyed by quarterback Jason Judson and backs Caz Zyks and Kyle Wright.
WW South at Glenbard North
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Outlook: It hasn’t been a typical year for two-time defending Class 7A champ Wheaton Warrenville South, which struggled offensively en route to a 1-3 start. But a defense led by Adam Dansdill (40 tackles), Daniel Roadman (36 tackles, three sacks) and Brandon Peterson (33 tackles, three tackles for loss) has kept the Tigers (3-3, 3-1 DuPage Valley) competitive. Glenbard North (5-1, 3-1) started 5-0 behind the running of Phil Jackson, but fell 10-6 at Naperville Central last week and still has Wheaton North (5-1) and Naperville North (4-2) on the schedule.
Leo vs. Gordon Tech
When: 1 p.m. Saturday at Luther North
Outlook: Because it has just five members, the Catholic League Red doesn’t have an automatic IHSA playoff berth. That raises the stakes on this game, with both Gordon Tech (3-3, 2-0) and Leo (3-3, 2-1) both pushing for the six wins that would clinch an at-large bid. The Rams’ option offense revolves around quarterback Julian Russell, while Leo’s attack is keyed by running back Keith Harris.
