Sheridan, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound senior, has guided the Titans to a 4-1 start. He’s also a pitcher/infielder for the Tinley Park baseball team. He counts Wabash, Millikin and Illinois Wesleyan as potential college destinations.
You live in Oak Forest but attend Tinley Park. How excited are you about the Week 7 meeting against the Bengals?
You don’t even know. It means everything. I played with a lot of those guys since second grade. I want to stick it to them my senior year. It’s a pride thing.
What’s it like for a kid living in Oak Forest to be a student-athlete at Tinley Park?
I graduated from a small middle school (Trinity Lutheran). Football helped me meet new people and we became one big family.
State title game. You’re in it. What team would you most like to beat for the championship? Why?
Oak Forest. They’re our biggest rival and we have a great tradition with them.
Given the chance, what person, dead or alive, would you most like to meet? Why?
Walter Payton. He never stopped working to get better.
You’re on a deserted island. You could have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?
Cheddar Sour Cream Lay’s Potato Chips with hot sauce.
What do you do better than anybody?
Be a leader. I lead by example, not only by my actions on the field but by my words to the team. I always try to keep everybody up.
What’s in your iPod?
A little of everything. Some Lil Wayne, Sublime, Rick Ross, Slightly Stoopid, 311.
What will the Bears finish?
12-4.
How does it feel to have a better record than Andrew (2-3)?
They’re like the big brother across the street. Kind of always in your shadow. It’s a pretty nice feeling.
Should Andrew and Tinley Park play a varsity football game every season?
It would be great. A crosstown game would be awesome.
Ten years from now, when you’re talking about coach Nick Johnston, what the first thing that will come to mind?
How before every game he gives the team a speech to clear our minds and prepare us for the game. He changes it each week and it helps motivate us.
