Keefe’s big game helps Lake Forest prevail

Dominic Keefe is a man of his word.

The Lake Forest linebacker had 11 tackles in a 10-7 upset of No. 16 Stevenson in North Suburban Lake action Friday.

“I told [quarterback] Jordan [Beck] if he got us two scores we’d win the game,” Keefe said. “We were kind of joking around, but that’s what happened.”

Keefe had two sacks and three tackles for loss.

“I wanted it more than anyone,” Keefe said. “I wasn’t going to let anyone stop me.”

“Nick was all over the field,” Lake Forest coach Chuck Spagnoli said. “Our good players needed to make plays in the second half. He was one of the guys that stepped up.”

With the Scouts (5-1, 3-0) leading 3-0 early in the fourth quarter, Beck (15-for-23, 156 yards) lofted a 26-yard screen pass to Owen Williams for a touchdown.

Stevenson (4-2, 3-1) rallied behind quarterback Matt Micucci, who directed a 69-yard scoring drive capped by a 17-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Bozin.

The Patriots had a chance to tie the game late. Micucci marched Stevenson to the Lake Forest 15-yard line, but his 32-yard field-goal attempt came up short.
