North Shore Country Day continues to roll past its Northeastern Athletic Conference opponents. The Raiders increased their overall record to 5-0 with a resounding 63-0 win over Hiawatha (0-5). North Shore’s decisive victory made them playoff eligible.
The undermanned Hawks had no answer for the high powered Raider offense. North Shore in the first half had six possessions and made it look easy scoring all six times.
The Raiders took a 46-0 lead at the half and North Shore coach Jim Dueble played all his players in the second half.
“It was a real good homecoming win for us”, said Dueble. “Everyone contributed from our seniors to the freshman who played in the second half.”
Senior quarterback Steve Smith led the versatile North Shore offense completing 7 of 9 passes for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Smith also dashed through the Hawks defense for an 18-yard touchdown run.
Hiawatha, with 20 players in uniform, had a difficult time of tackling Zach March on the wet grass. March scored three touchdowns, his first on a 40-yard punt return. The second March touchdown was a 40-yard aerial from Smith and his final touchdown in the second half, a 58-yard kickoff return. March on defense had three tackles and one interception.
North Shore racked up 226 yards rushing with junior back Ayo Okesanya registering 94-yards on 11 carries and one touchdown, a five-yard run. Okesanya also converted three two-point conversions. The stellar Raider defense held the Hawks offense to 50 total yards.
