Geneva roughed up St. Charles North for a 54-7 win in the Upstate Eight River conference action on Friday in St. Charles. Parker Woodworth ran for 96 yards in nine carries and three touchdowns to lead the No. 21 Vikings.
“It was a tough game for us, we knew St. Charles had some real talent,” Vikings Coach Rob Wicinski. “But Woodworth was a nice surprise. We knew he was good and he’s matured a lot.”
The Vikings (5-0) struck fast with an 87-yard drive for a touchdown on its first possession with Woodworth finishing the drive with a 29-yard run for the score. Quarterback Matt Williams, (8-for-15 for 156 yards and two touchdowns) picked apart the North Stars secondary throughout the game, connected with Connor Einck for 16 yards and a touchdown to open a 14-0 lead.
“My offensive line did a tremendous job,” said Woodworth. “They opened up the holes and I just ran.”
North Stars (0-5) Benjamin Kaplan returned the ensuing kickoff 69 yards to the Vikings 27-yard line. George Edlund (47 yards on 12 carries) punched through the Vikings defensive line from the 2-yard line for the touchdown to finish a 27 yard drive for the North Stars only score in the game.
Michael DuVair and Woodworth scored on 31- and 17-yards, respectively. The half ended with the Vikings leading 27-7.
“Our tackling was bad and we dropped some passes.” said North Stars Coach Mark Gould. “We looked like we weren’t prepared and we spotted them 20 points in the first quarter; you can’t do something like that.”
The Vikings dominated the third quarter scoring three touchdowns to open their lead to 47-7. Woodworth scored his third touchdown of the game on a 15-yard run, Ben Rogers had a 25-yard reception from Williams and Nick Caruso picked off a Collin Peterson pass and ran the ball in the end zone for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Bobby Hess (58 yards on 11 carries) closed out the scoring with an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter.
“We not a bad 0-5 team,” said Peterson. “We’ll just put this in our back pocket and go to the next game.”
Peterson was 9-for-16 for 48 yards and Oshay Hodges had four receptions for 39 yards for the North Stars.
