North Shore Country Day continued to roll through the Northeast Athletic Conference, dismantling Luther North 42-8. The Raiders victory was their fourth straight tying them for first place with Longwood.
The Raiders took control of the game in the second quarter by capitalizing on two Wildcat turnovers. North Shore led 7-0 after the first quarter when Zach March intercepted a James Cunningham pass and returned it 62 yards to the Luther North 23. On second down March ran 21 yards for the Raiders’ second score.
North Shore, following the touchdown, surprised Luther North with an onside kick. March recovered the loose ball on the Luther North 23. The Raiders offense struck again when Austin Curran caught a 12-yard scoring pass from quarterback Steve Smith.
The scoring onslaught continued into the second half when North Shore’s lead increased to 29-0 on a six-yard run Ayo Okesanya. Okesanya, the leading rusher for North Shore in the four games, rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns on runs of 15 and 44.
“Okesanya runs hard with a lot of power,” said North Shore’s veteran head coach Jim Deuble. “He’s built real low to the ground and is very difficult to tackle and he’s only a junior.”
The turnovers for the Wildcats gave the Raiders superb field position throughout the second half. The Raiders led 42-0 with 9:37 left to play when North Shore’s final touchdown came on a 35-yard run by Elias Butler. North Shore County Day rushed for 367 yards led by Okesanya 180 yards and Marches 96 yards on six carries.
Luther North’s totaled 201 yards of offense, all on the ground.
