Gordon Tech strikes early against St Joseph

Gordon Tech’s Jorge Garcia returned the opening kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown, and the Rams (2-1, 1-0) went on to win 47-0 over St. Joseph in the Catholic Red.

“When I received the football I saw two huge holes,” Garcia said. I went to the right and I had clear sailing. The blocking on the play was excellent.”

It didn’t take long for Garica to strike again. Three minutes later the Gordon defense blocked a Charger punt and recovered the football on the St. Joseph 25-yard line. Two plays later Garcia scampered off right guard for a 23-yard touchdown run.

Gordon’s quick-strike offense couldn’t be stopped. The Rams scored touchdowns on all four first-quarter possessions to take a 26-0 lead.

Gordon quarterback Julian Russell threw a 66-yard touchdown to Habeeb Durojaiye for the Rams’ third touchdown of the quarter. Durojaiye also ran for a 19-yead touchdown in the second quarter.

St. Joseph (0-3, 0-1) most promising first-half drive was to the Gordon 34-yard line, but it ended on a sack.

Gordon led 41-0 at halftime. In the second half each team kept the football on the ground and let the clock run out.

The Gordon defense held St. Joseph to 63 total yards, all of which were rushing. The Rams racked up 219 yards rushing with Steve Pittman registering 90 yards on six carries and one touchdown for 51 yards. St. Joseph lost its 19th straight game.
