Malcolm Weaver threw an interception on his third pass of the game Saturday, and Loyola found itself in an early hole.

The No. 7-ranked Ramblers (3-0) felt no pain after that, as they responded with six unanswered touchdowns in the first half on their way to a 48-13 victory over Lake Forest Academy (1-2) in Wilmette.

“We knew they had athletes that can make plays,” Loyola senior Charlie Dowdle said. “We just had to relax and do what we’ve been doing all season. I guess we had some jitters on the first drive.”

Weaver went on to throw three touchdowns to three receivers, including one to Dowdle, while backup quarterback Peter Pujals threw a thouchdown and ran for one in the first half, as the Ramblers scored more than 40 points for a third consecutive game.

After Loyola’s Robert Dooley forced a fumble on Lake Forest Academy’s first possession, Weaver was intercepted by Brendan Glaze, who ran the ball to the 4-yard line. Three plays later, Quai Chandler put the Caxys ahead 7-0.

It didn’t take long for Loyola to bounce back. The Ramblers got into the end zone 45 seconds later on Reed Michalek’s 3-yard run.

Loyola, which started six of its first seven series inside Lake Forest Academy territory, scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the first quarter when Weaver hooked up with Conner Person on a 14-yard pass.

Weaver then threw two TD passes 16 seconds apart early in the second quarter to ignite the rout.

“We know our offense is very potent,” Loyola coach John Holecek said. “We can score quickly.”

Michalek led Loyola on the ground with nine carries for 61 yards. Willie Palivos added 43 yards on nine rushes. Marquese Martin-Hayes and Richie Wehman both had touchdown receptions.

Meanwhile, Loyola’s defense stuffed Lake Forest Academy. The Caxys totaled five yards in the first two quarters.

“We like where we are,” said Dowdle, whose team begins the Catholic Blue schedule next week against Providence. “But we will see some really good defenses soon. It all starts now for us.”
