Shepard posts shutout on Argo

Giving up 35 straight points in a home loss to Hubbard last week, the Shepard defense had all the incentive it needed to turn around its performance.
“It is easy motivation,” Shepard linebacker Bryan Tellado said. “We had our heads on right with some aggressive practices.”
Led by their defense, the Astros pitched a shutout, winning 21-0 over visiting Argo in the South Suburban Red Friday.
Of Argo’s 11 possessions, eight ended with a punt and two on a turnover on downs.
“All we wanted to do was play hard, and we came out hyped for the homecoming win,” Tellado said.
Tellado, Robert Davis, Kevin Martin and Jordan Brewer all had huge tackles for losses for Shepard (2-1, 1-0).
While the defense handled its business, the offense pounded away. Cortez Miller (18 carries, 62 yards) and Lorenzo Lashley (seven carries, 73 yards) both had rushing touchdowns for the Astros. Miller’s 6-yard run up the middle in the second opened the scoring.
Jimmy McClinton finished 9-for-19 for 122 yards with a score, a 16-yard pass to Londell Lee in the third quarter.
Argo (1-2, 0-1) was led by Johnquail Scott (9 rushes, 36 yards) and Richard Olsen (4 rushes, 26 yards).
