Lane has little problem with Bogan

Updated: September 8, 2011 10:25PM

Lane refused to let a little rain dampen the spirits as they traveled across town and defeated Bogan 28-6 to get its first victory of the season Thursday night at Gately Stadium.

The Bengals (0-3) struck first on a 55-yard touchdown reception to Quentin Stevenson from Terrance Wolf. From that point on it was all Indians as they reeled off 28 unanswered points. Junior quarterback Jack McLaughlin was inserted into the lineup in place of Nick Jankowski and took advantage of his opportunity.

McLaughlin led the Indians (1-2) to 28 straight points as he scored their first touchdown on a 10-yard run. He then led a 5 play, 49-yard drive that culminated with a 1-yard touchdown run by Elijah Ewarawon to give Lane a 14-6 half time led. Ewarawon scored his second touchdown of the game with 10:03 in the third quarter as Lane built a 21-6 led and he finished off the evening with a 1-yard dive late in the fourth quarter.

Ewarawon had 21 rushes for 94 yards and three touchdowns. McLaughlin scored on a 10-yard run and had 15 carries for 77 yards.

“The weather was really bad. It forced us to run veer all night.” said coach Fred Proesel. Proesel also said that McLaughlin was a factor.

“This was a test for him. I wanted to see how well he could run the team and he did a pretty good job.” Bogan coach Sam Jones said “It was those costly errors that cost his team a chance at a victory. He is hard to win a game when you fumble twice inside in the red zone. No matter what the conditions are you have to value the football.”

Bogan lost the turnover battle 8-4 to Lane.
