Glenbard West blows by Willowbrook

After an emotional victory in the season opener against Wheaton-Warrenville South and with conference play starting next week, it could have been easy for No. 2 Glenbard West to look past Willowbrook Saturday afternoon at home.
But any worries about that were quickly put to rest within seconds as Avery Balogh ran for a 61-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. And the touchdowns didn’t stop there as the Hilltoppers went on to win 49-0.
“I thought our kids got better today,” said Glenbard West coach Chad Hetlet. “I thought they played good and executed. I’m happy with the way the played.”
Balogh added another score when he broke off a 57-yard run for a touchdown. In the first half the senior running back had 118 yards with two touchdowns on only two carries.
“Our running game was really on today,” said senior quarterback Justice Odom. “Throughout the week we definitely worked on passing a lot. We didn’t work on it as much as we wanted to during the game because our running game really stepped up. Avery had a ridiculous game.”
Odom finished with 27 passing yards with a touchdown while completing 3 of 5 passing attempts.
Glenbard West put up 28 points in the first quarter with the biggest play coming from Danny Kiel, who caught backup quarterback Henry Haeffner’s screen pass for an 83-yard touchdown.
The Hilltoppers now turns their attention to Lyons for the conference opener. Last year, Lyons defeated Glenbard West so just like in week one’s game against WWS, the Hilltoppers have revenge on their mind.
“We got to get better each week and LT’s the next one,” Hetlet said. “There’s a revenge factor there. Our kids haven’t forgotten that.”
