Lake Forest Academy rolls past Joes

Lake Forest Academy senior Matt Goad has a chance to make a huge impact for his new team this season after transferring from Warren.
That’s only part of the reason Lake Forest Academy coach Ted Stewart is thrilled with his new addition.
“The best part about him is he’s a great kid and a great leader,” Stewart said. “He’s fit in great with us and has been awesome. You can’t ask for anything more from him on the field. He’s done a great job at linebacker and he has a second gear (as a running back) where he can kind of take off and run away from people.”
Goad helped the Caxys earn their first victory of the season Saturday when they beat St. Joseph 42-7 in Westchester.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound two-way starter opened the game’s scoring when he caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Seamus Finnegan to give Lake Forest Academy a 7-0 lead after the first of six extra-point kicks by Ben Diaz.
“It’s going well,” said Goad, who also has two carries for 21 yards. “It’s been a smooth transition. I love the classes I’m taking, the team and everything has been great. I’m really hoping to have a great season.”
The outcome of the game was never in doubt.
Lake Forest Academy (1-1) scored quickly on its first five possessions to take a commanding 35-0 lead after one quarter.
Senior running back Quai Chandler (53 yards, five carries) added 31- and 6-yard touchdown runs in the opening quarter, while Charles Harris caught a 42-yard TD strike from Finnegan (3-for-4, 92 yards) and David Rowe contributed a 3-yard touchdown run.
The second quarter didn’t start until after an 1:15 weather delay because of lightning and heavy rain.
“It was a wild game, probably the craziest game I’ve ever played in,” Goad said. “(St. Joseph) plays tough, but it was just a great game for us. We’re getting better every week. The offense is rolling and we have all our weapons working.”
When the game resumed in the second quarter there was a running clock for the remainder of the contest and the Caxys started pulling their starters.
Alec Bozorgi scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter to make it 42-0. Sophomore Mbasa Mayikana led the Caxys with 62 rushing yards on five carries.
Joel Doiny and Brian Ahern each had an interception in the win.
“It was good to get out early and get some touchdowns,” Stewart said. “It was great to have the lead like that before we needed to wait out (the weather). We take it one week at a time. It was good to get a win today and we’re already thinking about a tough battle with Loyola next week. Hopefully we can go in and compete with them.”
St. Joseph (0-2) spoiled the shutout bid when Dominique Richards caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback John Rizzi.
