Loyola quarterback Malcolm Weaver, an Evanston resident, threw three first-half touchdowns as the Ramblers routed his hometown team 40-0 in Friday’s opener in Evanston.

Weaver, a senior, played just one half and completed nine of 16 passes for 128 yards. He threw touchdowns of 24 and 33 yards to senior Charlie Dowdle and hit senior Connor Person for a 10-yard score.

Loyola senior running back William Palivos opened the scoring with a 47-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. The score came one play after Ramblers senior linebacker Lars Lopatka intercepted a pass.

“A lot of people really stepped up, seniors really jumped out. It showed that we have a bunch of athletic guys” Loyola coach John Holecek said. “To keep up with [Evanston’s] speed ... they’re going to be a pretty good team when they get healthy and get some guys back. But our athletes were good tonight.”

No. 13 Loyola (1-0) closed the scoring in the first half with a 38-yard field goal by senior Adam Cushwa. Cushwa added a 29-yarder midway through the third quarter. Senior Dylan Brennan found the end zone five minutes later when he took a pitch from backup quarterback Peter Pujals and ran it five yards.

Evanston’s best chance to score came on its final possession, but the Wildkits (0-1) threw an incompletion on a fourth and goal from the two-yard line.
