Boys soccer: Courier-News All-Area Team

Garrett Creasor (St. Charles North senior goalkeeper)

One of two starters back from previous year, the last-line-of-defense Creasor was among first reasons for St. Charles North’s hopes to avoid a rebuilding year and the senior goalkeeper came through with nine shutouts as part of the 14-5-3 campaign that included earning Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Section 10 honors.

Cristian Camargo (Genoa-Kingston junior forward)

Tallied a single-season school-record 28 goals in leading the Cogs to a 12-6-2 season that ended in a 3-2 semifinal loss to Class 1A Sectional host Hinckley-Big Rock. IHSSCA All-Section 10 choice was also unanimous pick for All-Big Northern Conference East honors and accounted for half of G-K’s match-winning goals.

Tyler Davis (St. Charles North junior forward)

Headliner for All-Area unit as Courier-News Player of the Year and the area’s only IHSSCA All-State pick. Had team-high 25 goals (plus 7 assists for 57 points) — including six strikes during four playoff contests. Made Pepsi Showdown All-Tournament and sparked 6-2 season start that led to 14-5-3 year.

Anthony DiNuzzo (Bartlett senior midfielder)

Yet another club player making huge impact as newcomer for Hawks with team highs for points (37), goals (13) and assists (11) for a 3A Sectional semifinals unit that went 11-11-2. First-ever Bartlett player to have double digits in goals and assists earned IHSSCA All-Section 3 status along with All-Upstate Eight Conference distinction.

Chris Gousios (Burlington Central senior forward)

Hat trick keyed 3-0 regional-opening victory in order to lead Rockets in points (27), goals (12) and match-winners (4) after having done the same during junior year (career totals of 45 goals and 15 assists). IHSSCA All-Section 10 honoree also unanimous All-Big Northern Conference East for 12-7-5 squad.

Kyle Hagan (Dundee-Crown senior midfielder-forward)

Versatility at two positions helped 9-10-3 Chargers reach regional title match. Earned IHSSCA All-Section 6 status after being Honorable Mention in 2010. Senior year tallies of 37 points, 16 goals and five assists part of impressive career totals for points (97), goals (36) and set-ups (15).

Ismael Morales (Hampshire senior forward)

Offensive leader for Whip-Purs squad that shared Fox Division crown (5-1) in Fox Valley Conference and finished 13-11 and shy of regional championship. Leader in points (48), goals (19), and match-winners (4) compiled IHSSCA All-Section 10 and All-FVC distinction.

Mario Rako (Jacobs junior midfielder)

Natural forward known for defense in midfield for 12-11 Golden Eagles, who avenged two regular-season losses for regional plaque before losing to defending state champ Boylan. IHSSCA All-Section 6 honoree looks to add to career totals of 48 points, 20 goals and eight assists.

Erik Rodriguez (Larkin junior forward)

More productive half of Royals’ strong one-two offensive punch (with fellow junior Tony Escamilla), topped team in points (60), goals (23) and assists (14) as an encore to 2010’s single-season school goal record of 25 (coupled with 14 set-ups for 64 pts.). Two-time All-UEC pick and 2011 Pepsi Showdown All-Tourney pick helped 14-7-4 Larkin make consecutive regional final appearances.

Mike Winhoffer (St. Charles North senior midfielder)

Provided veteran experience and leadership to mesh North Stars returnees and newcomers into Sweet Sixteen squad, finishing 14-5-3. Capped his career receiving both IHSSCA All-Section 10 and All-UEC accolades.

Brad Yarwood (Burlington Central junior defender)

Blue-collar leader for yet another tenacious Rockets defense producing 12 shutouts as part of 12-7-5 season (follow-up to 11 shutouts during fourth-place 2A finish in 2010). IHSSCA All-Section 10 defender was a unanimous pick for All-Big Northern Conference East award.
