East Aurora is an offensive-minded team.

The Tomcats’ offense was in full force during a 6-2 win over Plainfield North Tuesday at the Plainfield North Class 3A Regional.

A pair of first-half goals by Abraham Kanneh set the tone as East Aurora (14-4-4) earned the right to face Plainfield Central (15-6-1) — a 1-0 winner over Neuqua Valley — in the championship match Friday at 4:30 p.m.

“Right now, we’re focused on the second game and taking it one game at a time,” Kanneh said. “We’re going to put this game behind us and get ready for Friday.”

Kanneh, a junior midfielder, scored twice in the first 19:55 to stun the host Tigers.

“On this field, any chance on goal was a good chance,” East coach Jason Rollins said. “We took advantage of some early opportunities. We just need to secure some things up defensively.”

Trailing 2-0, Plainfield North’s Colin Donnally tallied with 25:08 left in the first half to cut the lead in half. Kanneh’s second goal of the opening half at 19:55 bumped the lead to 3-1.

“We wanted to come out fast,” Kanneh said. “We were really attacking today, but I didn’t think we’d get six goals.”

Five minutes later, Victor Corral found the back of the net for a 4-1 Tomcat lead with 15:55 left in the first half. Seconds later, a misplay by the East goalkeeper allowed Donnally to score again to cut the lead to 3-2. The Tomcats took a 4-2 lead at the intermission.

Danny Miranda found Eddie Gaytan at the 47:02 mark to give East a 5-2 lead. Miranda finished the scoring with 22:04 to play in the game.
