Lemont takes down Tinley Park

With the conference championship and the No. 1 seed for the team’s home sectional locked up, Lemont had a simple task in the final game of the regular season Wednesday at Tinley Park.
“Stay healthy,” Lemont coach Rick Prangen said.
Lemont did stay healthy, and also earned a 2-0 South Suburban Blue win.
Just under 19 minutes into the first half, Kyle Koehler sent a cross from right of the net that reached Connor Cunningham on the opposite side of the net. Cunningham found Teodor Trifunovski in the center of the box, from where Trifunovski scored to make it 1-0.
“Kyle had a nice cross and Cunningham had a nice assist and I just had to tap it in,” Trifunovski said.
Lemont (16-3-3, 9-2) outshot Tinley Park (6-13, 2-9) 10-2 in the first half, but Trifunovski’s goal was the lone goal of the half thanks in large part to five saves by Titans goalkeeper Tyler Johnson.
Johnson’s only mistake came less than two minutes into the second half when Trifunovski fired from the left corner directly into Johnson’s chest. The ball bounced off Johnson’s chest, through his hands and rolled into the net to give Lemont a 2-0 lead.
“I have to say that goal was really lucky,” Trifunovski said.
Lemont didn’t receive too much luck in the team’s draw for the Class 2A playoffs.
“Even though we’re a one seed, we’re playing a five seed in the first round, rather than an eight or nine seed, and looking at playing a four seed in the second round,” Prangen said. “The match-ups are based on geography, so that’s the situation we have to deal with.
“If you’re complaining about your opponent, you shouldn’t be in the playoffs.”
