Boys Basketball: Andrew has little trouble with Lincoln-Way East

The perfect start to the season and subsequent rise in the polls hasn’t had an adverse affect on No. 4 Andrew.
The Thunderbolts improved to 11-0 Tuesday, disposing of Lincoln-Way East 61-46 in a SouthWest Suburban crossover in Frankfort.
Andrew flaunted its diversity, getting 19 points apiece from senior Jawad Adekoya and junior Glorind Lisha. Jubril Adekoya, the Thunderbolts leading scorer on the season, added 12 points.
“We remind the kids in practice that every game is a challenge,” Andrew coach Mike O’Halloran said. “They know what can happen on any given night. There are a lot of great teams all around. These kids have good heads on their shoulders.”
East got off to a good start and actually led by one after one period.
But the Thunderbolts started the second with a baseline jumper from Lisha and a steal and jam from Jawad Adekoya to take a 15-12 lead.
They would never trail again.
By the time the first-half ended, Andrew led 26-19. Tyler Hook and Alex Zappavigna provided hoops inside and Jubril Adekoya converted a pretty feed from Jawad for an easy two.
“The ranking doesn’t mean anything to us. It’s just our name next to a number,” Jubril Adekoya said.
Andrew led by as many as 17 in the second half. Jawad and Jubril Adekoya wowed the crowd with a pair of dunks and Lisha was a perfect 6 of 6 from the charity line in the fourth. In fact, Andrew was a solid 11 of 14 from the free-throw line on the night and 23 of 38 from the field.
“We’re not a one-man band,” said O’Halloran, referring to the perception that Jubril Adekoya carries the Thunderbolts. “Glorind is playing real well and Jawad had a great night tonight.”
Lisha admitted that it’s hard to avoid the rankings in school.
“We hear it all the time at school,” the junior guard said. “‘You’re ranked here and here.’ We try to keep it out of our head.”
For East (7-7), Eric Spudic and T.J. Anstett scored 10 points each, while Gavin Walsh and Joel Magrum added nine apiece.
The Griffins shot 16 of 38 from the field.
