Boys Basketball: Donald Moore helps Bloom overcome slow start

Updated: December 26, 2011 8:02PM

Bloom has been a great early season story as one of the surprise teams.

Recently the Blazing Trojans have displayed a bad habit of slow starts and falling behind early.

Thankfully they have Donald Moore and a tough defense to fall back on.

Moore scored 17 points and the No. 6 Blazing Trojans held Corliss without a third quarter field goal in cruising to the 70-47 victory in the opening-round of the 39th McDipper Tournament in Richton Park Monday.

``We have some players who are playing on this big stage for the first time,’’ Moore said. ``I’ve been here for three years, so I’m used to it.’’

With Bloom trailing 20-17 in the second quarter, Moore ignited his team’s offense by swishing a trey from the top of the key. Following Moore’s jumper, Bloom (10-0) finally took the lead on a pair of free throws by Lejavius Johnson.

Up 34-24 at the break, Bloom turned the game into a rout by outscoring the Trojans 19-1 in the third quarter. Their defense forced 21 Corliss turnovers.

Johnson complemented Moore with 16 points. Johnny Griffin contributed nine points and Jataryan Dejaraux added eight points.

Devonte York scored 15 points and Marcus Reed added nine points for the Trojans (3-7).
