Boys Basketball: Homewood-Flossmoor’s Tim Williams knocks down jumpers, Lincoln-Way East

Typically one of if not the tallest player on the court, Homewood-Flossmoor’s Tim Williams is a hard player to lose track of.
But even standing 6-foot-7, the senior forward shows a knack for drifting away from the defense for wide open jump shots on the perimeter.
“Sometimes with my height, (opponents) don’t think I can shoot it,” Williams said. “Sometimes I run baseline and sneak to the baseline, see if I can catch them sleeping.”
Drilling two three-pointers as part of dominant third quarter, Williams scored 19 points Friday night to lead H-F to a 60-45 win over visiting Lincoln-Way East in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.
Williams finished 3-for-4 from three-point range. Tyrone Sherman and Maurius Hill added nine apiece for Homewood-Flossmoor (7-2, 3-0). Jelani Yancy led Lincoln-Way East (4-4, 0-3) with 14 points while Gavin Walsh and Joel Magrum scored eight each.
Williams’ performance from long range helped blow open a 25-23 halftime lead. Coupled with a Willie Lipsey layup, the two three-pointers started an 18-0 run for the Vikings.
Williams scored eight points during the run with Hill adding seven.
“The full court press really got us going,” Williams said. “We trapped and got a lot of steals and easy layups. That’s what turned (the run) on.”
Lincoln-Way East missed its first 11 attempts from the field in the third including four three-point attempts while committing seven turnovers. Blake Anders’ bucket off a rebound finally stopped the H-F run, but it was too late as the Griffins trailed 43-25.
“They certainly turned up the pressure,” East coach Rich Kolimas said. “We had three early good looks that we missed so we go empty trips.”
As for Williams late, he showed he can certainly play inside too, throwing down a vicious one-handed baseline slam over his defender in the fourth.
“I rolled to the basket and thought I was open, but a defender stepped up so I had to cock (the ball) back a little bit,” Williams said with a smile.
