It some point during tonight’s game at Lakes in Lake Villa, North Chicago senior guard Aaron Simpson is going to become the No. 2 all-time scorer in Warhawk basketball history.
Currently, the Illinois State University-bound Simpson has 1,494 points.
The No. 2 scorer in Warhawk history is legend Rufus Woods, who totaled 1,500 points while playing for the Red/White in the 1960s.
Woods is best known for his miracle shot at the buzzer in a regional that gave North Chicago its first-ever basketball win over Waukegan.
That shot was considered the greatest ever in Lake County basketball until Waukegan’s Jereme Richmond knocked down a halfcourt bomb at the buzzer to beat Warren by a point in the Dog Pound in a sectional final three March Madness tournaments ago.
So far this season, Simpson is averaging 27.6 points per game.
He trails school all-time scoring leader Josh Allen by 182 points heading into weekend play.
Allen went on to have a nice career playing football at Northern Illinois.
If Simpson averages 21 points per game, he’ll pass Allen in nine games.
Upcoming for the Hawks will be at Young during Martin Luther King weekend.
One of those games will be against Brooks, and the other will be against Curie.
