Boys Basketball: Fremd’s three-pointer edges Huntley

Fremd’s Riley Glassman was waiting to be fouled. And when that never came, the sophomore calmly drained a 28-footer to lift the Vikings past host Huntley 41-40 Tuesday.
“I was surprised they never fouled me,” said Glassman, knowing that Huntley had two fouls to give in the closing seconds.
“I thought it was coming, but it never came. I just looked up and there were two seconds left and I put it up and it went in.”
Glassman, who finished with nine points, dribbled past two Huntley players and picked up screens from Nate Serviss and Ben Carlson before nailing the shot right in front of the Fremd bench.
“I thought Riley took the ball real hard to the basket,” said Fremd coach Bob Widlowski, who nearly tackled Glassman after he made his shot.
“He was so hard, that they never had a chance to catch up to him.”
Huntley (5-1) held Fremd scoreless for over eight minutes to erase a 31-23 deficit and turn it into a 36-31 lead with 4:30 to play.
Fremd (7-2) then rallied to tie it at 38 with 25 seconds left on a pull-up jumper by Sean Benka.
Huntley appeared to be in command when the Red Raiders took the lead with 8.1 seconds to play on a pair of free throws Amanze Egekeze (10 points).
Adam Gorecki led Fremd with 11 points, while Bryce Only led Huntley with 11 points.
