Bolingbrook coach Rob Brost lit a little psychological fire under his team Tuesday night even though the 63-59 victory over visiting Lockport keeps the Raiders on top in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

“To be honest, I was disappointed with how we played, disappointed with how we competed,’’ Brost said. “Overall, I was disappointed with the effort.

“We just played sloppy all the way around. The team we had Friday night and Saturday was completely different than the team tonight, effort and execution in particular.’’

Brost said part of the problem he had with his team could have been related to the atmosphere of a Tuesday game. Some credit also goes to Lockport for not letting Bolingbrook extend a 21-10 lead late in the first quarter into a bigger advantage.

“They’re a very talented ballclub,’’ Lockport coach Lawrence Thompson said. “They have the ability to go in spurts like that and make it real tough for you to maintain anything. We tried our best.’’

Bolingbrook (4-2, 2-0) was led by 18 points from 6-foot-7 junior Ben Moore and 14 points each from forward Nick Malonga and point guard Cam Burnett.

“We got a little impatient,’’ Thompson said. “Both times we caught up, we forgot what got us there.’’

Lockport guard Courtney Cole had a game-high 20 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter when the Porters got to within three points on three occasions before Bolingbrook responded each time.

Cole’s driving layup made it 57-54 with 56 seconds left followed by two free throws by Burnett to raise the lead to 59-54 with 34 seconds to play.

After Billy Reed’s jumper got Lockport to within 59-56, Bolingbrook was able to break the press and Moore got free for a layup and a 61-56 cushion with 14 seconds remaining.

“Credit goes to them,’’ Thompson said. “They made good decisions when they had to.’’

Lockport (3-2, 0-2) has lost two straight after winning three games in the WJOL Thanksgiving Tournament.
