Boys Basketball: North Chicago’s Aaron Simpson gets 44 in victory over Grant

Aaron Simpson scored 44 points as North Chicago opened North Suburban Conference Prairie Division play Friday with a 100-80 victory over visiting Grant.

Simpson was 15-of-33 from the field, 3 of 9 from three-point range, and 13 of 16 from the foul line.

Kevonte Curry had 14 points, Kelly Brown 11, and Marzhon 11 for the winners. Javairius Amos-Amos had nine points and 11 rebounds.

For Grant, Alan Lewis scored 26 points. Jerry Gaylor added 17, Sean Wells 16 and Jarod Helmich 10.

North Chicago led just 63-61 with 7:30 left. The Hawks scored 38 points in the final period.

“I was proud of the effort tonight,” said North Chicago coach Gerald Coleman. “We’re still experimenting and trying to figure out some roles.

“By Christmas time, we’re looking to settle on our units.”

Simpson, and Illinois State recruit, had 18 points in the fourth quarter.

“He played well defensively and offensively tonight,” Coleman said.

North Chicago (3-1) will play Antioch on Tuesday. Grant (3-2) hosts Highland Park on Saturday night.
