Boys Basketball: Lake Forest Academy’s Harris out for the season

A fluke injury in practice will sideline Charles Harris for the entire basketball season.

The Lake Forest Academy star, who has signed a national letter of intent to play at Western Michigan University, suffered a knee injury on Nov. 21. Caxys coach Matt Vaughn found out on Monday morning that the 6-foot-5 Harris will require surgery to repair a torn ACL.

“He just came down wrong,” Vaughn said. “We feel bad for Charles. Basketball is such a huge part of his life. To take away his senior season on a fluke thing is tough.”

The Caxys dropped all three games in the Waukegan Tournament. Forward Kori Babineaux provided a major highlight on Saturday night, scoring a school-record 48 points in a 75-67 loss to North Chicago.

“We did not anticipate he’d be able to score that much for us,” said Vaughn of the team construction with Harris in the lineup. “We knew with Charles out, Kori would have to take on a scoring role.”

The club will do its best to adjust without Harris on the floor.

“Nobody can afford to lose a player of his caliber,” Vaughn said. “But it’s even tougher for a school our size.”
