Cliff Dunigan and Robert Knar each scored 23 points, leading host Mundelein to a 77-69 victory over Lakes on Day 4 of the Mustangs’ holiday tourney.

With the win, Mundelein (4-0) clinched the tourney title, even though it still has to play Uplift from Chicago on Monday night.

The other five teams in the round-robin tournament have at least two losses.

That includes Lakes (2-2), which was tied at 56-56 with 5:28 left in the game.

Knar then hit a 3-pointer, Chino Ebube made a layup, Knar hit a jumper and Knar then finished off the 10-0 run with another 3-pointer that secured the victory.

“I’m happy with the effort from the team,” said Mundelein coach Richard Knar, Robert’s father. “This is the first time we’ve won this tournament in the eight years I’ve been here.

“It feels good not to hand the trophy out.”

Lakes had four players score in double figures. Tanner Blain and 6-8 Justin Schneider had 14 each, Direll Clark added 13 and Justin Bergeron had 10.

Lakes will finish by playing Brooks from Chicago at 6 on Monday.

“We played hard and battled tonight, but we had a couple too many mistakes to win the game,” said Lakes coach Chris Snyder.

Last year, Lakes struggled in this tourney, but the Eagles have a solid chance to go 3-2 this time around.

“It’s like night and day,” Snyder said of last year and this year.

Knar was 7-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-10 from behind the arc. He rolled his ankle late in the first half, but played on. He had 14 points in the fourth quarter, including 6-of-6 from the foul line to close out the game.
